1.2.1 'Candyland or Toyland?' Before class set up Candyland and Toyland - Place one candy out in a line on one side of the room and small toys on the other. Divide children up into "Abrams" and "Lots". Have the first "Abram" and "Lot" in line come to the front of the room. Lot's get to choose Candyland or Toyland and "Abram" must go in the opposite 'land'. Keep playing until you get to the end of the line. Ask the "Abrams" how they felt about 'Lots' picking first. Now have all the "Abrams" turn into "Lots" and all the "Lots" turn into "Abrams" and play the game again. The new 'Abram's' should now not feel so anxious.

Children choose a group that fits (athlete or soldiers). Hold up athletes practicing sport and soldiers on a practice exercise. 2. Hold up picture of playing a video game or watching TV. Children choose a group that fits (athlete, soldier, musician.) Hold up a picture of a person practicing a guitar with the previous ones. People in these groups love being good at their sport, fighting for their country, or playing good music better than playing video games or watching TV. 3. Sleep. Show picture of sleeping in. Children choose a group that fits. Many soldiers and athletes have to wake up early and start training. They believe training is more important that sleeping in. And they are willing to give these things up because they believe playing their sport or fighting for their country or playing good music are the most important things they can do. Show three pictures of what practicing leads to.
